Week commencing 10.5.21

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a great week starting all our new topics.

In maths we are working on multiplication and division skills and have begun working in our new 'Power Maths' booklets.

In literacy we have begun reading our new book 'Varjak Paw' which is proving just as popular as our last class novel 'I was a Rat'. This week the class have been exploring the main character and have engaged in discussions and drama activities. This is great preparation for next week's writing tasks.

Our geography topic, learning about Japan, has also proved to be really popular with some children surprising us with the depth of knowledge they already had. This week we focused on locating Japan on a map and looking at the geographical features and main cities. Next week we will explore more about the customs and cultures.

In R.E we have begun to look at Buddhism as a world religion and have learnt about Siddhattha Gotama and the origins of Buddhism this week. Next week we will explore the principals of Buddhism and what Buddhists believe.

Our science topic is 'Sound' and we have been exploring how sound travels through the air and through solid objects.

Finally, our Design and Technology topic is entitled 'Edible Garden' I am really excited about this as we are able to take the children to our science garden to explore how things grow and plant some herb and salad crops. Hopefully these will have grown sufficiently that the children can sample them before the end of the term. The topic will continue to explore healthy eating which will involve baking bread and making a healthy plant based meal.

That's all for now but stay posted for next week's instalment which will include some photos of our activities.
