Puffins Class

22.10.21

Last week of the half-term! Puffins have had a very exciting week this week.

Literacy

We have arrived at Cinderella's castle in our book 'The Jolly Postman'. We began the week by choosing our favourite character from the story and creating a character profile in our books. Then we retold the story by working in groups to create our own story mountains. Finally, we chose the part of the story we liked the best and practised our writing skills by reproducing it in our books.

Maths

In maths this week we have been learning about ordering numbers from smallest to biggest and biggest to smallest. We began by making ourselves a number line out of order and challenging the class to put us in the right place. Then we practised fixing some mixed up numbers on our whiteboards. Finally, we completed the number ordering work in our maths books.

Science-It is our last week of learning about the human body and the senses. We discussed all the things we have learned and remembered.

History-We have finished learning about the past and the present. We discussed all the things we know about history and completed a quiz.

RE-We talked about all the different ways we can care for others and completed the 'what I have learned' section in our books.

Puffins have been very busy this week. Here are some of the things we have been learning about:

Literacy

We have visited the Witches house in our book 'The Jolly Postman' and we have thought about what it would be like to be a witch. We have created a character profile for the witch, we have thought of questions for the witch and sat in the 'hot' seat as the witch. We have also written some spells during continuous provision time.

Maths

We have continued learning about more and less. We have been comparing groups and thinking about how to make more or less. We have been making potions for the witch in our continuous provision and discussing whether we need more or less. We have been thinking about weight and capacity.

Science

This week, we have been investigating sound and talking about how we hear sound. We went on a listening walk around the school to see what we could find. In continuous provision we used blindfolds to see if we could identify objects just by sound.

We have looked at how a book uses moving parts and discussed what we like/dislike about the product.
