We learnt all about the purple poppy and how it signifies the animals that gave their service in the War, and so we mixed some colours to find how to make purple! As well as this, we listened to the poem 'In Flanders Fields' and then continued looking at poetry in our Literacy lessons. Our poems sounded quite silly, and we looked at the pictures that went with them.

We have been looking closely at Diwali, creating our own Diya lamps. We have learnt the story of Rama and Sita and found that Diya lamps are used as a source of light to show that good wins against evil.

For Outdoor Learning Day, the children made self-watering plant pots! They worked in small groups and cut a plastic bottle in half with their partner, filled it with soil, added some string and a seed. The children also learnt all about recycling, sorting different pieces of rubbish into a recycling bin and a rubbish bin!

In Maths, we have been looking at 2D shape. We went on a shape hunt around the classroom and found lots of 3D shapes that had a 2D face! We used 3D shapes to print on to paper, using different coloured paints, to find which 2D faces we could see.

Week 4/10/21

This week we have begun to explore our senses! We have listened carefully to some sounds and discovered what water, walking through mud, walking through a forest and a snow storm all sound like. We have also felt items in a box and guessed what they were! These are our hearing and touch senses. We will be learning more about our senses next week.

Outside, we have been learning lots in the rain that was left on the floor! We built bridges to get across safely.

We have also been searching for signs of Autumn. The children have enjoyed using the clipboards and checklists, going round our Outdoor Area looking for squirrels, yellow leaves, brown leaves and acorns.

In Maths this week, we learnt how to use the unifix cubes and the numicon. We had great fun making towers and comparing numicon tiles!

We have been making bear masks in our continuous provision time, thinking about what parts of the body a bear has. The children's work has been displayed in the classroom for everyone to see.

Welcome to Robins class!

Reception children have been welcomed into our school and have had an amazing first few weeks!

We have had fun learning our new routine, attending our weekly celebration assemblies and have this week attended our first singing assembly with the rest of the school. We have also had an amazing new water wall built for our outdoor area which the children were fascinated by!

In our Literacy lessons, we have been taking part in lessons based on our half-term book 'We're going on a bear hunt'. We have learnt who the author is and have joined in with him performing the story. We have absolutely loved joining in with the story, going through the 'swishy swashy' grass and the 'hoooo-woooo' snowstorm!

In our Maths lessons, we have learnt to count up to 5 using a fives frame. We have been singing lots of songs that count to 5, including 5 speckled frogs and 5 currant buns. We even got the children on a fives frame!
