Week beginning 22/09/25

Congratulations to children who received star of the week this week and in previous weeks. Everyone has been working super hard, which has been lovely to see.

This week, Magpies have been continuing with their sentence stacking in literacy as we follow the short story of Malcolm in The Paperman. Children have been coming up with amazing sentences using alliteration and pathetic fallacy to describe Malcolm's time in his boring office.

In Maths, we have been using number lines to look at negative numbers and to compare and round different numbers.

Continuing with our topic of World War I in history, we looked further at life on the Western Front and explored different illnesses like trench foot.

In science, the children have worked in groups to plan out a fair test to carry out next week, investigating the effects of exercise on our pulse rate.

We started making our clay relief tiles in art this week based on the Florence Cathedral. Children had a lot of fun rolling out and shaping clay for the base of the tiles which we will be adding to.

To end the week, the Magpies finished their work on phonics in Spanish as we looked at the Spanish alphabet and completed listening tasks to test our recognition of different Spanish phonemes.

Spelling tests will continue to be on a Monday with spellings for the following week sent out on the same day. Our PE day is Wednesdays for swimming. Please encourage children to read as much as possible throughout the week.

Best wishes,

Miss Roche, Miss Garrod and Mrs Satkauskiene.
