Robins this week have been looking at improving their football and fundamental sending and receiving skills. Prior to the lesson there was a class discussion about what we need to be doing in order for us to develop our skills.
The children could explain that when dribbling the ball they must lightly push the ball using the inside of their feet because if they just kick the ball they will lose control of it meaning they will not be able to dribble in and out of the cones. Also, the children were using their feet to stop the ball getting away from them instead of using their hands.
The children also practised kicking and directional skills by trying to get their ball through the gate. In order for this to work they needed to work out how much power they needed to use in order for the ball to travel far enough to the gate.
This week owls class has been working on their OAA skills. Their aim was to cross the river blindfolded without touching any obstacles that lay in their way. In order to complete this, the children were told they must only communicate through clapping, so each team needed to come up with a series of claps that would tell them to either move forward, stop, left, right or jump. Teamwork and communication were two vital skills needed for this activity.
