We had our very own fire pit and toasted marshmallows together to gain vocabulary for our Literacy writing based on the book 'The Owl who was afraid of the dark'. We have also been using how to use a Thesaurus to find better words.

We also had a glittery, hands on experiement looking at germs and how they spread for Science.

In Design Technology we were exploring different types of texture in preparation for designing our own fabric faces.

Eagles continue to work on Place Value in Maths, and have been working on how to spell the word as well as practising their numerals.

In computing we have been working on On-line Safety and how to respond to and send safe emails.

We have finished our work on The Romans, and have moved onto Spatial Sense in Geography.  You can help support your child's learning with this by investigating road signs together.

Outdoor Learning - Fridays 

In Math's we are learning our numbers to 100 and counting in 10s .

We are working on the book 'The Owl who was afraid of the Dark' in Literacy.  We have been learning lots of vocabulary, learning to write independent sentences and have even been to a virtual fireworks display.

History this half-term is learning about the Roman Invasion of Britain.

In Art, we are exploring Shape, Colour and Texture and have incorporated lots of lovely outdoor learning sessions with this. We have also had some hands-on learning investigating different types of textures.

We have been learning about what animals, including humans need to survive in Science and have begun to look at the different 'systems' within the human body.

We also enjoyed some time in the Autumn sun picking and eating the last of the Outdoor Classroom pears.

We started our new topic 'Northern Europe' and spent time learning about Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Greenland and studied their flags too.

In DT we started working on our new topic of 'Fairground Rides' we also took a 'ride' on the roller-coasters from Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

In Maths we are working on efficient strategies.

We have started our new Literacy also, looking at the book 'The Magic Pencil'.

In Science we have been learning about the Solar System.

We have begun learning about 'Powerful Voices' in History, looking at why Ghandi and Rosa Parks have been influential in our lives.

We finished working on Fractions in Maths and will be moving onto learning about Time.

We are starting our independent big write for Literacy, creating our own fact files linked to our Plants, Seeds and Trees encylopedia.

In Science, we are learning about Materials and Matter.

In Computing, we are creating our own murals in an Impressionist style.

In Art, we are learning about Murals and Tapestries, both in Historical and Modern Art and have begun to make a class piece.

In Spanish, we are starting to learn the names of jungle animals and trying to sing the songs in Spanish.

We continue to learn about polysyllabic words in Phonics.  

Outdoor Learning will move to a Friday until the end of the Summer term.

Please continue to listen to your child read and practice tackling tables.

In Geography we are learning about the British Isles.

We are learning about new beginnings in RE and how this is celebrated in different religions and countries.

In Music we are listening to new sounds, instruments and styles.

In DT we spent our first lesson discussing dips and dippers, we tried lots of new shapes and textures and spent time learning what each dip was made from.  Everyone was amazing at trying everything.

In History, we learnt about the Reign of 'Bloody Queen Mary' and about 'The Boy King'.

In Computing, we are still working on algorithms.

In Spanish, we are learning colours and numbers.

In Maths, we continue with Division and Multiplication.  Please help your child with their Tackling Tables at home. We are starting to test them weekly now.

Outdoor Learning is a Friday.  Please send appropriate footwear so we can go outside whatever the weather.

We have also been learning about The English Reformation and the Dissolution of the Monastries in History.

We began with looking at different types of food that was eaten in Tudor times, and we learnt about the divide between rich and poor.

Eagles team would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We spent the afternoon in the ODL classroom gathering resources to make Sukkah.  A tent which was created by people of the Jewish Faith, and are still made today for the celebration Sukkot.

We did lots of activities involving how to raise money to make a cake and how to work out different amounts.  We also had a giant debit card and played a game to find different parts of it.  There was also some jumping around!

We talked about living, dead and inanimate and spent time working in table groups to sort different things into the correct categories.

We looked at the process of digging trenches, lining the trench with larger stones and sticks.  Then layered small stones and sand.  We then covered it with a layer of mud and made our top surface with leaves.  We added kerbsides with sticks.  Some even tried to build aqueducts!

We had lots of dirty hands and happy faces.

In computing we have been using our new 'search' skills to research The Romans.

Early in the week, was our sports day. All of the children practised really hard, and had a fantastic time showing off their sporting skills! Thank you to all of the families who were able to join us.

In Maths this week we have been learning about 3D shape. We have explored vertices and edges in more detail, using sticks to create 3D shapes of our own and practicing explaining our shape.

We have continued our Maths learning on 2d shapes and have been exploring patterns.

We have also started to learn about Northern Europe in Geography and Astronomy in Science. Our first lesson was about the Sun and the Solar System.

Tuesday was a brilliant day, taking part in the Lynnsport day.  We played lots of different sporting team games and had lots of fun together.

We have been practising our Spelling and Grammar, as well as continuing with our Phonics.

Please practice your times tables and reading at home.

Maths: we have been working on shape. This week we focussed on learning about lines of symmetry and enjoyed finding these in Outdoor Learning.

Literacy: We have been focussing on our spelling, punctuation and grammar skills this week. We will continue this after half term. You can help your child at home: if they write a sentence check it starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop.

Art: we have finished our mural this week! We are so proud of the children's efforts. Please see below:

This week we have been learning:

Literacy: we are writing our sequel to the 'Magic Finger'. The children have used their imaginations wonderfully, and we have had families turned into birds, deer and even wild rabbits!

Maths: we are learning about 2D and 3D shapes. Please help your child to recognise these shapes in and around your home.

Science: we continued our learning about materials and matter.

Art: we are using wool to add features to our mural. This week has involved weaving, creating twisted cords and making pom-poms. All of these are new skills and have been challenging!

Times tables: all of the children have impressed us this week by improving their scores. Please continue to help your child practise.

Literacy - we have been planning our own versions of the Magic Finger. The children have been very imaginative with the magic the girl might use - we have families turned into foxes, rats and even chickens!

Maths - we have finished our work on fractions this week. Next week we are learning about shape. Please help your children by discussing the shapes you can see around you.

History - we learnt the story of Malala, a young girl from Pakistan who wanted all people to be entitled to an education.

RE - We investigated what it is like to visit a gurdwara.

Art - We continued making our mural by printing mixed materials to make seaweed.

'That's a deciduous tree, Miss Snow!'

'Can you see the buds growing on that tree? Does it stay green all year, is it evergreen?'

We also spotted a jay bird, something many of the children and some of the adults had not seen before.

In Literacy. we have been reading 'The Magic Finger' by Roald Dahl and have been recreating the scene where the Greggs have just turned into ducks.

Then, during art, we had a go at printing our own designs of fish onto paper. We are working as a class team to create a mural, and look forward to showing it off once it is finished.

In History, we have been learning about Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King.

In Science, we have started learning about Materials and Matter.

Literacy - we are reading the story of 'The Magic Finger'. The children are really enjoying this story and there have been many giggles over the antics of the girl with the magic finger!

Maths - we are looking at fractions this week. You can help at home by halving and quartering snacks with your child.

Science - we are learning about materials. Here we are exploring materials:
 

Literacy - we have finished reading Rapunzel, and used our imaginations to think about how we could trap the Witch. Next week we are writing our own versions of the story.

Maths - we have been looking at dividing, by sharing objects into equal groups. This has been tricky for us, but we have worked really hard.

Geography - we have used our knowledge of maps to find Ireland and locate the capital city, and local landmarks.

Science - we have continued our learning about plants by conducting an experiment. Pop back next week to find out what happened to the plant in the cupboard!

In Literacy, we have continued to learn about Rapunzel. We were thrilled to have a visit from Rapunzel this week, although she looked a little bit like Miss Snow...

Then, on Tuesday afternoon, we created potions imagining we were the Witch. We really enjoyed shrinking Mrs Gosling, and making her grow again, giving her super speed and a friendship potion too!

In Maths, we have started learning to multiply. We are using equal groups to multiply and beginning to look at division too.

In DT, we have enjoyed tasting 'dippers' after much discussion on which foods we think would make a good 'dipper'. There were many fabulous suggestions, and when tasting, we all agreed the tortilla chip and the pepper were our favourites!

Literacy: we have finished our instruction writing. After half term we are learning about Rapunzel.

Art: we finished our learning about portraits. After half term we will be learning Design Technology, looking at dips and dippers.

We also welcomed Mrs Bate, a student teacher who is joining Eagles class until Easter.

In Literacy, we have been writing instructions to make a recycled instrument.

In Maths, we have looked at problem solving. Next week, we have some visitors to teach us all about money.

In Outdoor Learning, we created some transient art based on the sort of foods Ossiri might have eaten around the campfire. We had some fantastic creations, from soups and stews to fried scones!

In Science, we investigated conductors and insulators. Ask your child if they can explain the difference!

In RE, we learnt the Easter story, and discussed symbols of New Life.

Literacy: learning about instructions and how to write these. We have made recycled instruments which we will write about next week.

Maths: we are learning to add using column method. We are working out what to do when the numbers are bigger than 9 in each column.

Art: We added backgrounds to our self-portraits.

History: we are continuing to learn about the Tudors.

RE: we learnt about Baptisms and what they mean.

Science: following on from our excellent circuit building, we learnt to draw a scientific diagram of a circuit and label this.

In Art, we continued with our self-portraits and added facial features and hair.  We used our colour mixing skills to apply different shades and tones.

In Literacy, we have continued to work on Ossiri and the Bala Mengro, learning about musical instruments that are played in the Traveller Community.  We have also been learning about imperative verbs and sentence structure.

In Maths, we have been developing our subtraction skills using the column method.

In computing, we designed our own algorithms to make the frog turn into a prince.  

In History, we learnt about the English Reformation and the Dissolution of the Monasteries under the rule of King Henry VIII

In Science, we learnt about electrical circuits and had lots of fun building our own and working out how to get the light bulb to turn on.

In art, we have begun learning to create self portraits. We spent some time discussing facial features and how to draw these to scale.

In Science, we have learnt how to be safe around electricity. We learnt about the potential risks and how to avoid these.

In Literacy, we have discussed Ossiri and how her life is different to ours, living in a travelling community.

In Maths, we have learnt to subtract using an exchange. We have used column method to do this and Mrs Gosling is very impressed with how well we did!

In History, we have been learning about King Henry VIII and his six wives.

In Computing, we have been learning about algorithms and programming our own Princess and the Frog.

Plus some of the Tudor Roses we created in Outdoor Learning.

We had a fantastic time at our school trip this week, visiting Lynn Museum to learn all about The Tiger Who Came To Tea.

Eagles class have started our new topics. We are learning:

Maths - adding and subtracting, using column method. The children are using equipment such as base ten and counters to support this.

Literacy - we are learning about the story of Ossiri, a young girl from a travelling family. We are thrilled to have been lent lots of lovely books to support us with this.

History - we are learning about the Tudors.

Science - we are learning about electricity. This week we looked at which items use a battery and which use mains power.

RE - we are learning about beginnings and endings. This week we thought about any new beginnings we have experienced, such as moving house.

Outdoor Learning is linked to our history this half term.

Christmas is all about love.

It's about giving presents to people we love like our family.

It's about having fun and playing games with my family and my friends at school.

We have fun times at school like the singing.

When we celebrate Eid we have new dresses and go to our place to worship.

We then had a Christmas Party and shared lots of traditional Christmas party games, including a game of Santa Whispers, Pin the Nose on Rudolph, Santa Says, Snowball Racing with cotton wool balls, chopsticks and a bowl on our heads, and some games of 'Don't drop the Penny'.

Everybody had lots of fun.

Maths: we have been working on adding a two digit and one digit number together, but this time crossing tens. We have learnt to exchange ten ones for a ten.

Literacy: we have learnt alliteration, rhyme and noun phrases this week, ready to start writing our own poems next week.

Geography: we have planned our own route.

DT: we created a face shape stencil and used this to cut out a fabric face.

Things to remember: read your reading book every day, practice your Nativity lines.

Maths - we are working on addition and subtraction, working with one and two-digit numbers.

Literacy - our new topic is poetry. We have begun listening to, performing, and writing our own poems. Here is our first attempt: we are very proud of it!

In Art this week we have looked at texture. We enjoyed drawing some different items of clothing and fabrics, seeing if we could show the texture of the item.

In Maths, we have learnt how to add numbers together. Some of us looked at adding two and one-digit numbers together, and some of us revised how to add two one-digit numbers together. We used bead strings to help us.

We also looked at how the numbers are ordered up to 100. We played 'first to 100', and were very competitive!

In Art, we have finished our cut out compositions, inspired by Henri Matisse. Mrs Gosling was particularly impressed with the careful way the children placed their shapes, some of them making patterns and others designing scenes such as a sunset.

In History we have learnt how the Romans changed Britain. We turned into news reporters and gave a Newsround report to our friends about this.

These designs will be able to be viewed inside the new library when it is built. We will be sure to let you know when they are there!
