Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Eagles Class Spring Term 1 newsletter! We’re excited about another term full of learning and creativity. Here’s what Year 2 will be exploring this half-term:
Literacy
Text: The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt
Focus: Persuasive letter writing
Children will learn how to write letters expressing opinions and reasons clearly. They will explore the feelings of different crayons, practice using persuasive language, and develop skills in structuring letters with greetings, body, and closing.
Key Vocabulary: persuade, opinion, reason, letter, greeting, closing, paragraph, feelings, argument
Maths
We’ll focus on Multiplication and Division, using arrays, repeated addition, and grouping strategies. Later, we’ll learn about money, recognising coins and notes, and solving real-life problems involving change.

Science
Our topic is Electricity. Children will explore what electricity is, identify common electrical appliances, learn about circuits, and discuss safety around electricity. We will also be completing some fun experiments.

History
We’ll discover The Tudors: learning about Tudor life, clothing, food, and famous monarchs like Henry VIII and his wives.
Key Vocabulary: The Tudors, monarchy, reign, monastery, Kings and Queens, heir.
Art
Children will create Portraits and Self-Portraits, experimenting with different media and studying famous examples. We will be looking at Frieda Kahlo, Van Gogh and Mattisse.
Computing
Our focus is Coding. Pupils will learn basic programming concepts and celebrate Safer Internet Day.
Music
We’ll enjoy singing and playing instruments with the theme "I Wanna Play in a Band", and learn Tudor songs and nursery rhymes.
Spanish
Topic: Under the Sea – introducing new vocabulary and phrases through games and songs.
Religious Education
We’ll reflect on Nature and God, exploring how different faiths view the natural world.
Outdoor Learning
Activities include Tudor Games and Gardening Club, linking history and science to hands-on experiences.
How you can help at home:

- Read "The Day the Crayons Quit" together and discuss the crayons’ feelings.
- Practice multiplication and division using everyday objects.
- Look for electrical items at home and talk about how they work safely.
