Eastgate Academy Curriculum

One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.

Mission Statement: Eastgate Academy believes that children learn effectively when they are engaged, challenged and are able to relate personally to the topic.Intent

Our knowledge based curriculum is delivered to meet the unique needs of all our learners. We will empower and inspire our learners to develop a passion for life-long learning. Our lessons encourage curiosity, confidence and a strong sense of self-worth.

We aim to produce confident well-rounded children who can play a positive part as tomorrow’s citizens. As a community we explore and celebrate our historical heritage, our cultural diversity and take pride in who we are. We actively promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for others, such as those with different faiths and beliefs. We also recognise the importance of our place within the wider world and our curriculum and ethos ensure that our children are equipped with the cultural capital to be successful in life.

Implementation

At Eastgate we provide a range of experiences as we believe that our children learn best in practical and creative environments. Engagement is achieved through a well sequenced and creative curriculum which ensures key knowledge is embedded and applied across a range of contexts. Our lessons encourage independence and leadership and pupil voice is incorporated at both the planning and teaching stages. We actively promote a positive sense of self within the local and wider community. Planning is enhanced to ensure that every child understands the historical, geographical and cultural context of King’s Lynn. Our sequenced curriculum ensures that our children have opportunities to apply and explore their learning across the curriculum.

Impact

Our children demonstrate confidence, independence, resilience and a real thirst for learning. They are able to form meaningful relationships based upon mutual respect and trust, recognising and celebrating difference, not only within the school community, but in the wider world as well. Pupils have access to a well sequenced knowledge curriculum, allowing each of them to excel as individuals and be the best they can be. Our children have aspirations for the future and know that these can be realised with hard work and determination. They grow up being able to make a positive contribution to the world in which they live.
